Questions & Answers about Çocuğun kumbarasından çıksa çıksa sahte bir çek çıkar.
What exactly does the repeated çıksa çıksa mean here?
This is the core lesson structure: Verb + -sa + same Verb + -sa. While literally meaning 'if it comes out, if it comes out,' this reduplicated conditional expresses an exclusive possibility or an upper limit. We naturally translate it to English as 'at most,' 'at best,' or 'if anything.'
Why is the root verb çıkmak used three times in this sentence?
The first two instances form the reduplicated conditional çıksa çıksa (meaning 'at most'). However, the sentence still needs a main verb to complete the action. That is why we see the aorist verb çıkar at the end. The sentence structurally flows as 'If it comes out, if it comes out... a fake check comes out.'
Could you break down the suffixes on kumbarasından?
The root is kumbara (piggy bank). Since it belongs to the child, it takes the 3rd person possessive suffix -sı to become kumbarası. To say 'from the piggy bank,' we add the ablative case -dan. Whenever you attach a case ending like -dan to a 3rd person possessive suffix, Turkish requires the buffer letter -n-, giving us kumbara-sı-n-dan.
Why is it sahte bir çek instead of bir sahte çek?
