Questions & Answers about Arayüz kolaysa, termostatın ayarlayabileceği sıcaklıkları hemen görürsün.
Can you break down the word ayarlayabileceği?
Sure! It combines the ability marker with an object relative clause. It breaks down as: ayarla (set/adjust) + -y- (buffer) + -a (connective vowel for potential) + -bil (ability) + -ecek (participle) + -i (3rd person possessive). The k softens to ğ because of the following vowel. Together, it forms "that it can set".
Why does termostat take the genitive suffix -ın?
In Turkish object relative clauses (where the noun being described is the object of the action), the subject of the clause takes the genitive case. Since the thermostat is the one doing the setting, it becomes termostatın to link with the possessive ending on ayarlayabileceği.
Why is there an -ı at the very end of sıcaklıkları?
That is the accusative case suffix. The entire noun phrase termostatın ayarlayabileceği sıcaklıklar (the temperatures that the thermostat can set) is the specific, definite direct object of the verb görürsün (you see). Because you are seeing specific temperatures, the accusative case is required.
Could I say kolay olursa instead of kolaysa?
