Questions & Answers about Bu halter ve bovling sesine tahammülüm yok.
Why is the dative case (-e) used on sesine?
The word tahammül (tolerance) dictates the case of the thing being tolerated. Just like you direct your patience 'to' something in Turkish grammar, you use the dative case here: sesine tahammülüm yok (literally, 'to its noise my tolerance does not exist').
How does the noun compound work in halter ve bovling sesine?
In Turkish, when you have multiple words modifying the same noun in a compound, you only need to use the possessive compound marker once at the very end. Instead of saying halter sesine ve bovling sesine, they are grouped together sharing the single word sesine.
What is the exact breakdown of the suffixes on sesine?
It breaks down as ses (sound/noise) + -i (the possessive marker completing the compound 'barbell and bowling noise') + -n- (the buffer consonant always used after a 3rd person possessive suffix when adding a case marker) + -e (the dative case marker).
Could I use a verb instead of saying tahammülüm yok?
Yes! You can use the compound verb tahammül etmek (to tolerate). To express the same meaning, you could say Bu sese tahammül edemiyorum (I cannot tolerate this noise). Using the noun form tahammülüm yok (I have no tolerance) is just a very common, idiomatic alternative.
