Questions & Answers about Bu ormanda toksik egzoz gazı solumayız.
Why isn't there an accusative ending on egzoz gazı?
Even though it is the direct object of solumayız, it does not take the accusative case marker (-nı) because it is indefinite. We are talking about inhaling exhaust gas in general, not a specific, previously mentioned cloud of gas.
How is the verb solumayız constructed here?
It comes from the verb solumak (to breathe or inhale). This is the aorist, or broad tense, in the negative first-person plural. The root solu- takes the negative 'we' aorist suffix -mayız, indicating a timeless fact or general habit.
Could we say egzoz toksik gazı instead?
No, you cannot split a standard noun compound like egzoz gazı with an adjective in Turkish. Because toksik modifies the entire concept of 'exhaust gas', it must be placed directly before the whole compound.
