Questions & Answers about Asıl açıyı çarpıtıyor ve bu yanılgıyı vurguluyor.
The current lesson is about the 'asıl ... olan' structure. Why isn't 'olan' used here after 'asıl'?
In this sentence, asıl is simply acting as a regular adjective meaning 'real' or 'actual' right before the noun açı (perspective). You don't need olan here because it is not a cleft sentence like 'The actual thing that is distorted...' — it just means 'He distorts the real perspective.'
Does açı mean 'perspective' here, like a point of view?
Yes! Literally, açı means a geometric 'angle'. However, much like in English, it is very commonly used metaphorically in Turkish to mean 'perspective', 'angle', or 'point of view' (often seen in the phrase bakış açısı).
What is the root of the verb çarpıtıyor?
The verb is çarpıtmak (to distort or twist). It is related to the adjective çarpık (crooked or warped). You can think of it as literally 'making something crooked', applied here to facts, truths, or perspectives.
How is the word yanılgıyı formed?
The root is the verb yanılmak (to be mistaken or deceived). The suffix -gı turns it into the noun yanılgı (misconception, fallacy, or error). Finally, the -(y)ı at the end is the specific direct object (accusative) case marker, used because it receives the action of vurguluyor.
