Questions & Answers about Bu bir muz, elma değil.
Could I say Bu bir tane muz using the counter word from this lesson?
Do I ever make the noun plural after numbers?
Never! In Turkish, nouns after numbers must always stay singular. Just like you wouldn't say one bananas in English, it is always bir muz (one banana) or beş muz (five bananas). You never add the plural suffix -lar or -ler when a number is present.
Why does değil come after elma instead of before it?
The word değil means not, but in Turkish, it always comes right after the word it is negating. While English says not an apple, Turkish builds the sentence as apple not (elma değil).
