Questions & Answers about Bana karşı çok ilgisizdi, üstelik hiç bahşiş bırakmadı.
How does üstelik work here, and could I use ayrıca instead?
üstelik means moreover or on top of that. It is used to add a piece of information that makes the situation even stronger or more extreme, often in a negative way, like adding insult to injury. ayrıca (furthermore) just adds another fact neutrally. So here, üstelik emphasizes how bad the customer's behavior was.
Why is it bana karşı instead of just beni karşı?
The word karşı meaning towards or against always requires the dative case, which shows direction. Therefore, you must use bana (to me), not the accusative beni.
How is the word ilgisizdi built?
It comes from ilgi (interest or attention). Adding the suffix -siz (without) gives ilgisiz (indifferent or uncaring). Finally, the past tense ending -di (was) is attached, making it was indifferent.
Why is hiç used with a negative verb (bırakmadı)?
In Turkish, hiç works like any or at all and requires a negative verb to mean none or never. Together, hiç bahşiş bırakmadı translates to he didn't leave any tip at all.
