Questions & Answers about Tembellik yapacağınıza daha yaratıcı fikirler üretmelisiniz.
How does yapacağınıza translate to "instead of being lazy"?
It uses the grammar pattern for "instead of doing [verb]". To the verb stem yap- (do/make), we add the future suffix -acak, then the possessive -ınız (your, plural/formal), and finally the dative case -a (to). While it literally looks like "to your future doing," this specific combination (-acağına / -eceğine) is the standard way to say "instead of doing."
Why is there a ğ in yapacağınıza?
This is consonant mutation (k to ğ). When the possessive suffix -ınız starts with a vowel and is added to the future suffix -acak, the hard k softens to a ğ so the word flows more easily. Therefore, yapacak + ınız + a becomes yapacağınıza.
Why does the sentence use yapmak? Doesn't tembellik mean lazy?
Tembel is the adjective "lazy," but the -lik suffix turns it into the noun tembellik (laziness). In English we say "being lazy," but in Turkish, you "do laziness." That is why it is paired with the helper verb yapmak (to do).
