Questions & Answers about Hafta sonu hava bozsa bile planımızı iptal etmiyoruz.
How does bozsa bile create the "even if" meaning in this sentence?
We start with the verb stem boz and add the conditional suffix -sa to mean "if it gets bad". Adding the word bile (even) right after a conditional verb changes the meaning to "even if".
Doesn't bozmak usually mean "to break" or "to ruin"?
Yes, but hava bozmak (literally "the weather breaking") is a very common Turkish idiom. It just means the weather is taking a turn for the worse, such as becoming cloudy, rainy, or stormy.
Could I use da instead of bile here?
Absolutely. For these "even if" statements, you can use either bile or da/de. Saying hava bozsa da means exactly the same thing as hava bozsa bile and is just as common.
Why does the word planımızı have two different suffixes at the end?
The first part is planımız, which adds the possessive suffix -ımız to plan to mean "our plan". The final -ı is the accusative case marker. We need this case because "our plan" is the specific direct object of the verb iptal etmek (to cancel).
