Questions & Answers about Kardeşim arılar onu sokmasın diye bütün vücudunu örtmüş.
Why does the sentence use the imperative sokmasın inside the phrase sokmasın diye?
The word diye acts as a link to show intent or purpose. By putting the verb in the negative 3rd person imperative sokmasın (let it not sting) right before diye, you create a purpose clause. It conceptually translates to 'saying let it not sting him,' which is the standard Turkish way to express 'so that it doesn't sting him'.
Why is the verb sokmasın singular when the subject is arılar (bees)?
In Turkish grammar, non-human plural subjects (like animals, plants, or objects) generally take singular verb endings. That's why we use the singular sokmasın instead of the plural sokmasınlar.
Can you break down the suffixes on vücudunu?
The base word is vücut (body). When we add the 3rd person possessive suffix -u (his body), the hard t softens to a d (vücudu). Then, because his body is the specific direct object being covered, we add the accusative case suffix -u, using the buffer letter -n- in between. This gives us vücudunu.
Why is the main verb örtmüş instead of örttü?
The suffix -müş forms the reported or inferential past tense. The speaker uses it here because they most likely didn't watch their brother cover himself up; they either saw the end result (he is completely covered) and deduced what happened, or someone else told them about it. The English translation uses 'reportedly' to capture this nuance.
