Questions & Answers about İllüzyonu yapan sihirbaz, bizi kandırmamış gibi gülüyor.
Why do we use the past tense in kandırmamış gibi if he is laughing right now?
The structure verb + -mIş gibi means "as if [someone] has/had [verb]ed." Even though his laughing is happening right now (gülüyor), the act of fooling (or not fooling) happened in the past. Therefore, we use the negative past suffix -mamış with gibi to mean "as if he hasn't fooled."
Can you break down how yapan translates to "who does"?
The suffix -an creates a subject participle, which turns a verb into an adjective phrase meaning "the one who..." or "that/who does." Here, yapmak (to do) becomes yapan (who does). It directly describes the noun sihirbaz to mean "the magician who does."
Why does illüzyon have an -u at the end if it's not the main object of the sentence?
İllüzyon is the direct object of the participle yapan (who does). Just like regular verbs, participles can take their own objects and apply case markers to them. Because he is doing a specific illusion, the word takes the definite accusative suffix -u, becoming illüzyonu.
Why is it bizi instead of just bize or biz?
