Questions & Answers about Bu kitapla ilgili konuşuyoruz.

Why is there a -la on the end of kitap?
The suffix -la is the attached version of the word ile, which means "with". In Turkish, to say "about" something, you often use the combination ile ilgili (literally "related with"). So kitapla ilgili means "about the book".
Could I use hakkında instead of ilgili to say "about"?
Yes! You can also say Bu kitap hakkında konuşuyoruz. Both -lA ilgili and hakkında are very common ways to say "about" in Turkish. Notice that if you use hakkında, you just use the plain noun without the -la suffix.
How is the verb konuşuyoruz built?
The verb stem is konuş- (to speak/talk). To add the present continuous suffix -yor (meaning happening right now), we need a connecting vowel because the stem ends in a consonant. Following 4-way vowel harmony for the "u" in konuş, the connecting vowel is u. Finally, we add -uz for "we", creating konuşuyoruz.
Why didn't the "p" in kitap change to "b" when adding -la?
Words ending in hard consonants like "p" often soften to "b" when you add a suffix starting with a vowel (like when saying kitabı). Because the attached suffix -la starts with a consonant (l), the p in kitap stays exactly as it is.
