Questions & Answers about Hafta sonu toplantı yok.
Why isn't there a present continuous verb here if the lesson is about future plans?
Just like in English, Turkish can use present forms for scheduled future events. Using yok (there is not) states a set schedule or fact, which works perfectly for talking about plans for the upcoming weekend.
Why is the word for end (son) written as sonu in hafta sonu?
Hafta sonu is a noun compound combining week (hafta) and end (son). In Turkish, when linking two nouns like this to make a new concept, the second noun takes a possessive suffix. So it literally translates to "week its end".
Why doesn't hafta sonu have a suffix like -da (at/on) attached to it?
Time expressions often don't need extra suffixes in Turkish when they tell us when an event happens. Just saying hafta sonu is enough to mean "at the weekend" or "this weekend".
Where is the word for "a" in "a meeting"?
Turkish often leaves out the word bir (a/an) when making general statements with yok. Toplantı yok naturally translates to "there is no meeting".
