Questions & Answers about Halk o zalim sultana çok kızgınmış.
Why does the sentence use kızgınmış instead of kızgındı?
The suffix -mış is the reported or inferential past tense. It shows that the speaker did not witness the anger firsthand, but rather heard about it or deduced it from evidence (meaning apparently or reportedly). If the speaker had been there and seen the anger themselves, they would use the direct past tense kızgındı.
Why does sultan have an -a at the end to make sultana?
The adjective kızgın (angry) requires the person you are angry at to take the dative case, which adds an -a or -e ending. While in English you are angry 'at' or 'with' someone, in Turkish you direct your anger 'to' them.
Since halk (the people) refers to many individuals, why doesn't the sentence end with the plural kızgınmışlar?
In Turkish, halk is a collective noun. Even though it refers to a group of multiple people, the word itself is grammatically singular. Because the subject is singular, the word acting as the verb at the end of the sentence does not take the plural suffix -lar.
