Questions & Answers about Biz bir suçluyu asla affetmeyiz.
Why doesn't affetmeyiz have an 'r' or 'z' in it to show it's the aorist tense?
In the negative aorist (general present) tense, the 'we' form is irregular. While most subjects get a -z (like affetmez meaning he/she doesn't forgive), the 'we' form drops it and uses -meyiz or -mayız. Here, it is affet (forgive) + -meyiz (we don't).
Why are there two 'f's in affetmeyiz?
This verb is made by combining the noun af (forgiveness) with the helper verb etmek (to do/make). When they merge into one word, the consonant doubles for pronunciation, giving us affetmek.
Why does suçlu take the accusative ending (suçluyu) if there is a bir (a/an) in front of it?
Normally, bir makes an object indefinite, meaning it wouldn't take the accusative ending. However, when the object is a human being, Turkish often uses the accusative case anyway to single them out as a specific individual. Suçlu ends in a vowel, so it takes the buffer -y- and the accusative -u.
