Questions & Answers about Su ne zaman donar?
Why does donar use the -ar ending instead of -ur or -ır?
The verb root is don- (to freeze). For the aorist (simple present) tense, most single-syllable verb roots ending in a consonant take the -ar or -er suffix. Because don- has the back vowel 'o', it follows A-type vowel harmony and takes -ar to become donar.
Why do we use the aorist tense (donar) here instead of the present continuous (donuyor)?
The aorist tense is used for general facts, habits, and scientific truths. Since water freezing is a general rule of nature rather than an action happening right this second, we use the aorist donar instead of the present continuous donuyor.
Why is there no question particle (mı) at the end of the sentence?
In Turkish, if a sentence already contains a specific question word like ne zaman (when), you do not add the yes/no question particle mı.
