Questions & Answers about Otelde kal.
Why is the verb just kal without any suffixes?
This is the informal command (imperative) for a single person. To tell someone to do something, you take the dictionary form of the verb, kalmak (to stay), and simply remove the -mak ending. What is left is the bare root, kal.
Why is the word otelde instead of otele?
Otelde uses the locative case suffix -de, meaning 'at' or 'in' the hotel. If you used otele (with the dative suffix -e), it would mean 'to the hotel'. Since you stay at a place, -de is the correct choice here.
Do I need to add the word sen (you) to this sentence?
No, you do not have to. The bare verb kal already implies 'you' (singular). Adding the pronoun sen (Sen otelde kal) gives it extra emphasis, like saying 'You stay at the hotel' (perhaps while the rest of us go out).
Does the command verb always go at the end of the sentence?
Usually, yes. Turkish typically puts the verb at the very end of the sentence, and this word order rule still applies to commands like kal.
