Negative ability relatives (-(y)amayacağı)

Expressing "The Thing I Cannot Do"

To describe a noun with a relative clause expressing inability—like "the movement that I cannot do"—Turkish combines the negative ability suffix (-(y)ama or -(y)eme) with the future object relative participle.

Because the negative ability suffix always ends in a vowel, it takes the buffer y before the relative suffix, becoming -yacak or -yecek. The final k then softens to ğ before the possessive ending, which indicates who lacks the ability.

Describing Physical Limitations

This structure is highly useful for discussing medical symptoms, physical therapy, and mobility limits. As with all object relative clauses, the specific "doer" of the action takes the Genitive case (e.g., hastanın or hiçbir fizyoterapistin).
