Future conditional (-acaksa)

When planning logistics—like hosting a foreign exchange student—you often need to make arrangements based on what someone else intends or plans to do.

The Future Conditional: -(y)AcAksA

To say "if [subject] is going to do...", combine the future tense suffix -(y)AcAk with the conditional suffix -sA (which becomes -sa or -se following the consonant k). Remember to add the buffer letter y if the verb stem ends in a vowel.

If the exchange student is going to come tomorrow, we will meet him at the airport.
Değişim öğrencisi yarın gelecekse, onu havaalanında karşılayacağız.
If he is going to settle in the flat, we will arrange everything.
Daireye yerleşecekse, her şeyi ayarlayacağız.

Personal Endings and the Negative Form

Personal endings attach to the very end of the word (except for onlar). To make the condition negative, insert the negative suffix -mA before the future tense suffix.

Here are examples showing the second-person ending and the negative form used in scheduling and planning:

If you are going to arrange his schedule, I will do the shopping.
Onun takvimini ayarlayacaksan, alışverişi ben yapacağım.
If you are going to show the guest around the city, do not forget to introduce our culture!
Misafiri şehirde gezdireceksen, kültürümüzü tanıtmayı unutma!
If he is not going to get a scholarship, there is no registration, because the program is very expensive.
Burs almayacaksa kayıt yok, çünkü program çok pahalı.

Notice how the plural suffix -lAr goes before the conditional -sA when talking about "they":

If the students are going to settle in the dormitory, they will buy many things.
Öğrenciler yurda yerleşeceklerse, çok şey alacaklar.

Present vs. Future Conditional

Distinguish between conditions based on actions happening right now (using the present continuous conditional -(I)yorsA) and conditions based on future plans (-(y)AcAksA).

If he is coming today we will meet him, but if he will come tomorrow he will settle in the dormitory.
Bugün geliyorsa onu karşılayacağız, ama yarın gelecekse yurda yerleşecek.
