หมา บาง ตัว ดุ แต่ หลาย ตัว ใจดี ครับ

Questions & Answers about หมา บาง ตัว ดุ แต่ หลาย ตัว ใจดี ครับ

Why is the word order หมาบางตัว instead of just saying "some dogs"?
In Thai, to say "some [noun]", you use the pattern Noun + บาง + Classifier. So for "some dogs", it translates literally to "dog some [animal-classifier]" (หมาบางตัว). You will also often see just บาง + Classifier if the noun was already mentioned and understood from context.
Why do we say หลายตัว instead of just หลาย for "many"?
Just like บาง (some), the word หลาย (many or several) needs to be paired with a classifier. Since we are still talking about dogs in the second half of the sentence, we repeat the animal classifier ตัว.
Why is there no word for "are" before ดุ (fierce) and ใจดี (kind)?
In Thai, words that describe states or qualities, like ดุ and ใจดี, act as verbs on their own. They already include the meaning of "to be" (are fierce, are kind), so you don't need to add a word like เป็น or คือ.
Does ใจดี literally mean "good heart"?
Yes! It is a compound word made of ใจ (heart or mind) and ดี (good). Thai uses many of these "heart words" to describe personality traits and emotions. A dog that is ใจดี is friendly and good-natured.
