Why do we use both ช่วย at the beginning and หน่อย at the end of the request?
ช่วย literally means to help, but at the beginning of a sentence, it acts like please. Adding หน่อย (which means a little bit) at the end softens the request even further, making it sound friendly rather than like a strict command. This ช่วย ... หน่อย pattern is the most common way to ask for a favor in Thai.
What is the exact purpose of ให้ here?
ให้ usually means to give, but here it acts as a preposition meaning for me or to me. Since the speaker is asking the listener to pick up the fan for them, ให้ shows who benefits from the action.
Does หยิบ mean to hand over or to pick up?
หยิบ specifically means to pick something up with your hands. When you combine it with ให้ (for me), the whole phrase หยิบ ... ให้ means pick up for me. This is exactly how Thai people say hand me an object.
Can I drop ครับ since หน่อย already makes the sentence polite?
You should still keep ครับ (or ค่ะ for female speakers). While หน่อย softens the tone so you do not sound bossy, ครับ shows standard social respect to the listener. Using both together is the natural way to make a polite request.
