Softening requests (หน่อย)

Softening Commands and Instructions

Direct commands can sound harsh. To make instructions sound gentler and more natural, add the softening particle หน่อย at the end of the sentence. It works similarly to adding "a bit" or "a little" in English.

Making Polite Requests with ช่วย

To turn an instruction into a polite request, place ช่วย (to help / please) before the verb and keep หน่อย at the end of the sentence.

Requesting Actions for Yourself with ให้

When you are asking someone to do something specifically for you (like handing you an object or giving you a discount), place ให้ (for) immediately before หน่อย.

Asking for Items

You can also attach หน่อย to ขอ (may I have) to soften requests for objects or services.
