Warning Against Stubborn Behavior with ขืน
When you want to warn someone that their risky or stubborn behavior will lead to trouble, Thai uses the conditional auxiliary ขืน. Placed directly before an action verb, it translates to "if you persist in" or "if you defy advice to".
To express the inevitable negative consequence of this action, the conditional is frequently paired with มีหวัง (inevitably / surely) in the result clause.
Let's look at an example warning a friend about spending เกินตัว (beyond one's means).
