The Proximity Modifier เกือบ
To express that an action or event "almost" happened, place the proximity modifier เกือบ directly before the verb. It is incredibly useful for narrating near misses, close calls, and moments of clumsiness.

Narrating Close Calls
When telling a story about a minor accident or a disaster narrowly avoided, simply place เกือบ right in front of the action that was prevented.
| A friend stumbled and almost crashed into the table. | เพื่อน สะดุด และ เกือบ ชน โต๊ะ ค่ะ |
| Did you almost step on the cat's tail? | คุณ เกือบ เหยียบ หาง แมว ใช่ไหม คะ |

Almost Reaching a State
You can also use เกือบ before adjectives and state verbs to describe things that are on the verge of happening, such as food burning or a severe consequence of an accident.
