That is why (ถึงได้)

Expressing "That is why" with ถึงได้

To state a logical consequence based on an established reason, Thai uses the emphatic connector ถึงได้ ("that is why" or "so that is the reason").

Place ถึงได้ immediately before the main verb of the result clause. It is often paired with a preceding clause starting with เพราะ (because).

Realizing Logical Outcomes

This pattern frequently appears in hindsight, recognizing how someone's flaws, mistakes, or careless actions inevitably led to their current situation.

Emphasizing the Cause with นี่แหละ

To add emphasis, end the causal clause with นี่แหละ (exactly like this) or นั่นแหละ (exactly like that) before moving to the ถึงได้ result clause. This firmly points to the exact reason for the outcome.

Compound Reasons and Hindsight

You can also string multiple reasons together or contrast a past action with a present reality before delivering the final outcome with ถึงได้.
