Physical capability (ไหว)

As people get older (แก่), their bodies can sometimes become weak (อ่อนแอ).

Physical Capability and Stamina

To express whether you have the physical strength, stamina, or endurance to do something, place the word ไหว after the action verb. This is frequently used when talking about physical limits, sickness, or aging.

To say you cannot physically handle an action, place ไม่ before ไหว.

Aches and Limitations

When experiencing physical ailments like knee pain (ปวด เข่า) or bone aches (ปวด กระดูก), everyday movements like getting up (ลุก) can become difficult.

If someone needs assistance, they might use a walking stick (ไม้เท้า) to help them manage.

Failing Senses and Heavy Burdens

Use ไหว to describe any physical limit, whether that means your eyesight (สายตา) isn't strong enough to read, or a bag is simply too heavy to carry.
