Expressing "Otherwise" with ไม่อย่างนั้น
When you need to warn someone of a consequence—expressing "otherwise" or "or else"—Thai uses the connector ไม่อย่างนั้น.
Simply state the required action, followed by ไม่อย่างนั้น, and then the consequence:
[Required action] + ไม่อย่างนั้น + [Consequence]
| You must settle the balance today, otherwise the system will suspend the account. | คุณ ต้อง ชำระ ยอด วันนี้ นะ ครับ ไม่อย่างนั้น ระบบ จะ ระงับ บัญชี |
| Don't forget to settle the balance, otherwise the bank will demand payment. | อย่า ลืม ชำระ ยอด นะ ครับ ไม่อย่างนั้น ธนาคาร จะ ทวง |
The Casual Form: ไม่งั้น
In spoken and informal Thai, ไม่อย่างนั้น is commonly shortened to ไม่งั้น. It functions exactly the same way but carries a more conversational tone, much like "or else."

Warning of Negative Consequences
You can use these connectors to warn against any kind of negative outcome, from getting into trouble (เดือดร้อน) to getting fired or fined. Place the connector at the very beginning of the result clause.
