Action Frequency Classifiers: ครั้ง and ที
To count how often an action occurs, place an occurrence classifier at the end of the sentence or verb phrase. The standard pattern is [Verb Phrase] + [Number] + [Classifier].
The two most common classifiers for frequency are ครั้ง (time / instance) and ที (time / occasion). They mean the same thing, though ครั้ง is standard while ที is slightly more conversational.
| I've had my fortune read twice. | ฉัน เคย ไป ดูดวง สอง ที ค่ะ |
Repeating Actions with อีก
To express doing something "again" or a certain number of "more times", place อีก (more / again) before the number: [Verb Phrase] + อีก + [Number] + [Classifier].
| Can I shuffle the tarot cards three more times? | ขอ สับ ไพ่ยิปซี อีก สาม ที ครับ |
| You need to draw a tarot card one more time. | คุณ ต้อง หยิบ ไพ่ยิปซี อีก หนึ่ง ครั้ง ค่ะ |
Asking "How Many" and Saying "Many"
Just like when counting objects, you can replace the number with quantity words like หลาย (many) or the question word กี่ (how many) immediately before the classifier.
| This fortune teller has predicted about luck many times. | หมอดู คน นี้ ทำนาย เรื่อง โชค หลาย ครั้ง แล้ว ครับ |
| The fortune teller shuffled the tarot cards many times. | หมอดู สับ ไพ่ยิปซี หลาย ที มาก ครับ |
| If I don't have luck, how many times should I fix it? | ถ้า ไม่ มี โชค จะ แก้ กี่ ครั้ง ดี คะ |
Using Classifiers with Longer Phrases
When talking about complex topics—like seeking predictions about love or resolving issues—the frequency pattern still simply attaches to the very end of the complete phrase.
| He has told me how to fix love problems twice already. | เขา บอก วิธี แก้ ปัญหา เรื่อง ความรัก สอง ที แล้ว ครับ |
