Jag minns inte vem som använder schablonen nattetid.
I do not remember who uses the stencil at night.
Questions & Answers about Jag minns inte vem som använder schablonen nattetid.
Why do we need the word som after vem here?
This sentence contains an indirect question: vem som använder schablonen. Because the question word vem (who) is the subject of the embedded clause (the one doing the using), Swedish requires you to insert som. If you just said Jag minns inte vem använder, it would be grammatically incorrect.
Can I ever leave out som in an indirect question?
Yes, but only when the question word is the object rather than the subject. For example, if the sentence was "I do not remember who the manager uses," it would be Jag minns inte vem chefen använder. Because chefen is the subject doing the action there, no som is inserted. In our sentence, vem is the subject, so som is mandatory.
How does nattetid differ from saying på natten?
Nattetid means "at nighttime" or "during the night." It functions as an adverb and often carries a slightly more formal, habitual, or professional tone than the standard på natten. You will often see this pattern with other times of day, such as dagtid (during the daytime) or kvällstid (during the evening).
What kind of object is schablonen?
En schablon means a stencil or a template. It is commonly used for a physical painting stencil, but it is also widely used metaphorically in Swedish to describe a standardized template, routine, or a "cookie-cutter" approach in business or administration.
