Learn Swedish: Jag hoppas att författaren skriver vidare på serien. - I hope that the author continues writing the series.

The particle vidare expresses continuation. While skriver simply means writes, adding vidare turns it into continues writing or keeps writing. It acts as an aspectual particle here, showing that an already ongoing action keeps moving forward.

Why do we say skriver vidare på serien instead of just skriver vidare serien?

In Swedish, you often use the preposition på when talking about an ongoing process or a creative project that is not yet finished. You are essentially writing on the series. This pairs perfectly with the continuous feeling that vidare provides.

Where does the stress fall when pronouncing skriver vidare?

Because skriver vidare is a particle verb, the stress always lands heavily on the particle rather than the verb itself. You should pronounce it with a strong emphasis on vidare.

If I wanted to say I hope the author does not continue writing, where would inte go?

It would go right before the verb: Jag hoppas att författaren inte skriver vidare på serien. Because att starts a subordinate clause, Swedish uses a specific word order rule where sentence adverbs like inte must come before the conjugated verb.
