Questions & Answers about Vi inspirerar varandra att använda fritiden bättre.
Why does the Swedish sentence say fritiden (the free time) when the English translation says 'our free time'?
In Swedish, when it is obvious from the context whose thing it is, you typically just use the definite form of the noun instead of a possessive pronoun. Since 'we' are the ones using it, fritiden naturally translates to 'our free time'. You could say vår fritid, but the definite form is more natural.
How does the word varandra work here?
Varandra is a pronoun meaning 'each other' or 'one another'. You use it when two or more people do an action to each other. Since we inspire them and they inspire us, we inspire varandra.
Could I include the preposition till and say inspirerar varandra till att använda?
Yes, you certainly can. Both inspirera någon att göra något and inspirera någon till att göra något are correct and common ways to express inspiring someone to do something. Leaving out till just makes the sentence slightly more direct.
Is bättre (better) an adjective or an adverb here?
It acts as an adverb because it describes how we do the verb att använda (to use). Luckily, the comparative form bättre looks exactly the same whether it is used as an adjective describing a noun or an adverb describing a verb.
