Questions & Answers about På den här kursen lär vi oss grammatiken mycket snabbare.
Why does the sentence use På for "In" instead of I?
In Swedish, you are generally considered to be "on" a course rather than "in" it. Therefore, you always use the preposition på with courses, such as på en kurs (on a course) or att gå på en kurs (to take a course).
Why is there an -en at the end of kursen? Doesn't den här already mean "this"?
This is a great example of the Swedish double definite rule. When you use den här (this) or den där (that), the noun following it must also be in its definite form. So you need both the pointing word den här and the definite noun kursen.
Why is the word order lär vi instead of vi lär?
This happens because of the V2 (verb-second) rule. Since the sentence starts with a descriptive phrase (På den här kursen), the verb (lär) must immediately follow it in the second position, pushing the subject (vi) right after the verb.
Why do we need the word oss here?
In Swedish, to say that you are acquiring knowledge yourself, you must use the reflexive verb att lära sig (to learn). Because the subject is vi (we), the reflexive pronoun changes to match it: vi lär oss (we learn). If you left out oss, the verb lära would mean "to teach" instead.
