Questions & Answers about De hinner nog klippa gräset.
Why is there no att (to) before klippa?
Because hinner (to have time) acts like a modal verb here. Just like kan (can) or vill (want to), it is followed directly by the bare infinitive form of the next verb, without using att.
Does hinner really mean "have time to"? It is just one word!
Yes! English needs a whole phrase, but Swedish uses the single verb att hinna to express having enough time to do something.
Doesn't nog mean "enough"? Why does the translation say "probably"?
While it can mean "enough", nog is very frequently used as a sentence adverb meaning "probably", "likely", or "I expect". In this sentence, it shows the speaker assumes they will have time.
Can klippa mean both "to cut" and "to mow"?
Exactly. Att klippa means to cut with a tool like scissors or shears. When talking about gräset (the grass), klippa gräset is the standard everyday way to say "mow the lawn".
