Questions & Answers about Vi har nyligen beställt tre nya paket.
How do we know to use beställt instead of beställat for the supinum here?
Beställa (to order) belongs to Group 2 of Swedish verbs. While Group 1 verbs form the supinum (the verb form used after har) by adding -at, Group 2 verbs take the verb stem and add a single -t. That is why it becomes beställt.
Why is nyligen placed right in the middle of the verbs har and beställt?
In a standard Swedish main clause, sentence adverbs like nyligen (recently) or inte (not) are placed immediately after the first verb. Since har is the first verb, nyligen steps in before the second verb, beställt.
Why is the adjective nya used instead of ny or nytt?
Because we are ordering tre (three) packages, the adjective needs to be in its plural form. For almost all Swedish adjectives, you just add an -a to the base form for the plural, making it nya.
I see tre (three), but paket doesn't look plural. Why is that?
