Why does the verb pratar end in -ar?
Pratar belongs to Group 1, which is the largest group of regular verbs in Swedish. To form the present tense for Group 1, you just add -r to the dictionary form of the verb, which already ends in -a. So, prata (to speak) becomes pratar (speak/speaks).
