Why does this sentence use Cuál instead of Qué for "What"?
In Spanish, we usually use cuál (which literally means "which") when asking for personal information like a name, phone number, or address. You are essentially asking "Which name out of all the names in the world is your doctor's?" Using qué before es is normally only used when asking for a definition, like "What is a doctor?"
Why is it el nombre de tu doctor instead of tu doctor's nombre?
Spanish does not use an apostrophe and an "s" to show ownership. Instead, you have to flip the phrase around and use the word de (of). So, "your doctor's name" always becomes "the name of your doctor" (el nombre de tu doctor).
Why doesn't the word tu have an accent mark over the "u"?
In Spanish, tu without an accent mark means "your" (as in tu doctor). If you add an accent mark, tú means the person "you". Since we are saying "your doctor" and not "you doctor", we use the version without the accent.
How would this sentence change if my doctor is a woman?
If your doctor is female, you simply change the word for doctor to its feminine form, doctora. The rest of the sentence stays exactly the same: ¿Cuál es el nombre de tu doctora?
