Why is there no word for "a" here? Shouldn't it be Tú eres un doctor?
In Spanish, when you state someone's profession, you usually drop the word for "a" or "an" (un or una). You just say Tú eres doctor. You would only add un if you added a descriptive word, like Tú eres un doctor excelente (You are an excellent doctor).
Do I have to use the word Tú, or could I just say Eres doctor?
You can absolutely just say Eres doctor. Because the verb eres only ever means "you are," it already tells the listener exactly who the subject is. Spanish speakers often drop pronouns like tú for this reason. Including it here just adds a little extra emphasis to the "you."
Why does Tú have an accent mark over the 'u'?
The accent mark is used to tell this word apart from another word that sounds exactly the same. Tú (with the accent) means "you." Tu (without the accent) means "your," as in tu casa (your house).
If I am talking to an older person or a stranger, do I still use Tú eres doctor?
