Expressing contrast (sin embargo)

Sometimes things don't go as planned. To express a contrast or introduce an unexpected outcome, use sin embargo (however).

State the initial situation, then start the following sentence with sin embargo and a comma to introduce the twist.

The plan is good. However, the result is unexpected.
El plan es bueno. Sin embargo, el resultado es inesperado.
It is very cold. However, the event happens outside.
Hace mucho frío. Sin embargo, el evento sucede afuera.

Reality vs. Expectations

Sin embargo frequently contrasts plans, attempts, or promises with reality.

That promise is very beautiful. However, the reality is different.
Aquella promesa es muy bonita. Sin embargo, la realidad es distinta.
That attempt fails. However, reality surprises him.
Ese intento falla. Sin embargo, la realidad lo sorprende.
They forget the promise. However, we continue the project.
Ellos olvidan la promesa. Sin embargo, nosotros continuamos el proyecto.
