Questions & Answers about Пап, этот сквозняк такой же холодный, как зимой!
Why does the sentence start with Пап instead of the dictionary form Папа?
This is the colloquial truncated vocative. In informal, everyday speech, short given names and words for family members ending in -а or -я (like папа, мама, Саша) often drop their final vowel when you are calling out to the person directly.
I know такой ... как means 'such ... as', but what exactly does the particle же add to такой же холодный, как?
Adding же creates the structure for exact equivalence: 'just as cold as' or 'the exact same cold as'. Without же, такой холодный, как sounds a bit looser, more like 'so cold, like...' rather than a direct, equal comparison.
Is the word for draft (сквозняк) related to the preposition сквозь (through)?
Yes, exactly! Сквозь means 'through', and a сквозняк is a draft—literally wind blowing through an opening or across a room. Recognizing this shared root makes the noun much easier to remember at this level.
Why is the word for winter in the instrumental case (зимой) here?
