Questions & Answers about Более того, завтра мы компенсируем убытки.
How can we tell if компенсируем is perfective or imperfective here?
The verb компенсировать is biaspectual, meaning the same dictionary form handles both aspects. To resolve it, we look at the context. The word завтра places the event in the future. If this were the imperfective future, we would use the compound form будем компенсировать. Because it uses the simple conjugated form компенсируем to talk about a future completed action, we know it is acting as a perfective verb here.
If компенсируем looks like a standard present tense conjugation, why is it translated as future tense?
In Russian, perfective verbs do not have an actual present tense. When you conjugate a perfective verb using standard present-tense endings, it automatically creates the simple future tense. Since the context forces компенсировать to act as a perfective verb here, the form компенсируем means we will complete the compensation.
What is the grammatical breakdown of the phrase Более того?
Более is a comparative form meaning more, and того is the genitive form of the pronoun то (that). Literally it translates to more of that, but as a fixed phrase it is used just like moreover or furthermore in English to introduce an additional, stronger point.
Why is the direct object убытки identical to its dictionary plural form?
