Questions & Answers about Тот, кто вымотался на работе, должен хорошо выспаться.
Does Тот, кто only refer to a man who is exhausted?
No. While тот is grammatically masculine, the phrase тот, кто is the standard Russian way to say "anyone who" or "the person who" in a general, gender-neutral sense. You would only change it to the feminine form (Та, кто вымоталась...) if you were talking about a specific woman.
Is it a coincidence that both вымотался and выспаться have the prefix вы- and the suffix -ся?
It is not! Combining the prefix вы- with the reflexive suffix -ся often creates a verb that means doing an action to its absolute limit or until fully satisfied. Here, выспаться means to sleep until you are completely rested, and вымотаться means to wear yourself out until you have no energy left.
Which word is the modal adjective должен grammatically agreeing with here?
It agrees with Тот. The core of this sentence is actually Тот должен хорошо выспаться (That person must get a good sleep). The phrase кто вымотался на работе is a relative clause inserted into the middle of that core sentence to explain exactly which person we are talking about.
Why are there commas on both sides of кто вымотался на работе?
