Questions & Answers about Зачем ты тащишь папин чемодан? Это же такая тяжесть!
Why is the unidirectional verb тащить used here instead of the multidirectional таскать?
Тащить is used because the action is happening right now in one specific direction (a single trip). The speaker is watching the person drag the suitcase at this very moment. If they were asking about a repeated habit (like "Why do you always drag this suitcase around?"), they would use the multidirectional таскать.
Why use Зачем instead of Почему for "Why"?
Зачем specifically asks about the purpose or goal of an action ("For what purpose are you dragging it?"), whereas Почему asks about the root cause or reason. The speaker wants to know the intended goal behind moving the suitcase, not just the background reason.
What form is папин and why isn't it папы?
Папин is a possessive adjective meaning "Dad's." Nouns for family members often form these adjectives (like мамин, бабушкин). It acts like a normal adjective and agrees with the noun it modifies, which is why it is in the masculine accusative case here to match чемодан. Using the genitive чемодан папы is grammatically fine, but possessive adjectives are much more natural in everyday spoken Russian.
What is the purpose of the particle же in the second sentence?
Же is an emphatic particle that often appeals to common sense or something obvious. Here, it highlights the speaker's emotional reaction to a self-evident fact, adding a flavor similar to "But it's such a heavy load!" or "Look, it is obviously so heavy!"
