Learn Russian: Игнорируя уведомления, ты сможешь сконцентрироваться. - Ignoring notifications, you will be able to concentrate.

In Russian, you can only use a verbal adverb if the person or thing doing that action is the exact same as the subject of the main verb. Here, the subject is ты (you). Since you are the one doing both the ignoring and the concentrating, the sentence works perfectly. If the main subject were different (for example, 'Ignoring notifications, your focus will improve'), you could not use игнорируя.

How is игнорируя formed, and what aspect is it?

It is an imperfective verbal adverb. You form it by taking the third-person plural present tense form (игнорируют), dropping the last two letters, and adding -я. It is used in its imperfective form here because the action of ignoring is an ongoing background process that happens simultaneously with the main action.

Is the comma after уведомления mandatory?

Yes. In Russian, verbal adverb phrases (the verbal adverb plus any dependent words, like its direct object уведомления) must always be isolated from the rest of the sentence by commas. This is a strict punctuation rule.

Why does сконцентрироваться have the reflexive -ся ending?
