Questions & Answers about Такова специфика проекта: мы работаем даже ночью.
Why do we use the short form такова here instead of такая?
Такова is the predicative (short) form of the demonstrative pronoun такой. It acts as the main predicate of the first clause, meaning 'such is'. It is feminine to agree with специфика. Placing a short-form таков word at the very beginning of a sentence is a common rhetorical device in Russian used right before a colon to elegantly introduce an explanation.
The English translation says 'such are the specifics' (plural). Why are we using the feminine singular такова instead of the plural таковы?
In Russian, специфика is a singular feminine noun referring to the 'specific nature' or 'distinctive character' of a thing. English natively expresses this idea using the plural word 'specifics', but in Russian, the pronoun must agree with the grammatical gender and number of the Russian word itself. If you were using a true plural noun like правила (rules), you would indeed use таковы правила.
Is ночью in the instrumental case here, and why?
Yes, ночью is the instrumental form of the feminine noun ночь (night). However, you should think of it here as a fixed adverb of time meaning 'at night'. Russian commonly uses the instrumental case of times of day to answer the question 'when?' (just like утром for 'in the morning' or днём for 'during the day').
Could I say специфика о проекте instead of специфика проекта?
