Questions & Answers about Здесь любой гость может получить всё, что он желает.
Why use любой here instead of каждый?
Любой means "any" in the sense of "whichever one you choose." Каждый means "every." While "every guest" (каждый гость) makes logical sense, любой гость emphasizes the absolute freedom of choice: pick any guest at random, and this statement applies to them.
The sentence uses всё. How is this different from все?
Всё (pronounced with a "yo" sound) means "everything" and is the neuter singular form of the pronoun весь (all). Все (pronounced with a "ye" sound) is the plural form and means "everyone" or "all people." Since the guest is receiving "everything" and not "everyone," we use всё.
Why do we need the comma and что after всё? Can't we just say "всё он желает"?
In English, we often skip the word "that" and just say "everything he desires." In Russian, relative clauses must be explicitly connected. When referring back to всё (everything), you must use что (that/what) and separate the two clauses with a comma. The structure всё, что is extremely common and required here.
Why is the perfective verb получить used here after может instead of the imperfective получать?
The perfective получить is used because the sentence focuses on the successful result of obtaining a desired item. If we used the imperfective получать, it would sound like the guest is in a continuous, ongoing process of receiving things, rather than just successfully getting what they asked for.
