Questions & Answers about Они могут влюбиться друг в друга.
Why is the preposition в right in the middle of друг друга?
When using друг друга (each other) with a preposition, the preposition always goes directly between the two words. You will never see a preposition before the first друг.
Why is the second part spelled друга?
The verb влюбиться (to fall in love) requires the preposition в followed by the accusative case, as if they are falling 'into' each other. The first друг never changes its form, but the second one takes the required case. Since друг acts like an animate masculine noun, its accusative form is друга.
Why use the perfective verb влюбиться here instead of the imperfective влюбляться?
The sentence describes a potential one-time result: they might fall in love. Using the imperfective влюбляться would imply a repeated action, meaning they have a habit of repeatedly falling in love with each other over time.
Why is могут translated as 'might' instead of 'can'?
The verb мочь covers both ability (can) and possibility (might or may). Since falling in love is not a conscious physical skill you perform on command, the context makes it clear this is about the possibility of it happening.
