Questions & Answers about Давай пригласим его на пикник.
Why do we use пригласим here instead of the infinitive?
With давай (let's), we use the 'we' form of the future tense for perfective verbs. Since inviting someone is a single, completed action, we use the perfective verb пригласить, making it давай пригласим. We only use the infinitive after давай if the verb is imperfective.
Why is it давай and not давайте?
You use давай when suggesting an action to one person whom you address informally (with ты). If you were talking to multiple people or someone you address formally (with вы), you would use давайте.
Why do we say на пикник instead of в пикник?
Events and public activities, like a picnic, concert, or festival, usually take the preposition на rather than в. We are directing an action toward the picnic, so пикник is in the accusative case. It looks identical to the dictionary form because it is an inanimate masculine noun.
Is его in the accusative or genitive case here?
It is in the accusative case. The verb пригласить (to invite) acts on a direct object, which requires the accusative. For animate pronouns and nouns, the accusative form looks exactly like the genitive form, which is why он becomes его.
