Questions & Answers about Она откажется или от первого варианта, или от второго.
Why is there a comma before the second или?
When using double conjunctions like или ... или (either ... or), Russian punctuation rules require a comma before the second half of the pair.
Why is the preposition от repeated before второго?
In Russian, when you use a double conjunction linking two phrases that share a preposition, you usually have to repeat that preposition. That is why it says или от ... или от, rather than just using от once.
Why are первого варианта and второго in the genitive case here?
The verb отказаться (to reject, refuse, or give up) always pairs with the preposition от, which forces the following nouns and adjectives into the genitive case.
Does второго mean the second option even without the noun?
Yes! Just like in English, we can drop the noun to avoid repeating it. Since варианта was just mentioned, второго simply means the second one and stays in the matching genitive case.
How do we know this is a future action?
The verb откажется is perfective (the imperfective is отказываться). When you conjugate a perfective verb with present tense endings, it automatically creates the future tense, meaning she will reject.
