Double conjunctions (и... и, или... или, ни... ни)

Neither ... Nor (ни ... ни)

Use the double conjunction ни ..., ни ... (neither ... nor) to reject multiple options or actions. Because Russian uses double negation, always include the negative particle не before the verb.

If the options include prepositions, place ни directly before each preposition.

It can also reject multiple actions:

They want neither to give up nor to look for a compromise.
Они не хотят ни сдаваться, ни искать компромисс.

Both ... And (и ... и)

To emphasize that multiple things are true or multiple actions occurred, use и ..., и ... (both ... and). It can connect subjects, objects, or entire actions.

Both my husband and your brother want to accept these conditions.
И мой муж, и твой брат хотят принять эти условия.
We both accepted the conditions and signed the contract.
Мы и приняли условия, и подписали договор.

Just like with ни, place и directly before any prepositions.

Either ... Or (или ... или)

When weighing choices or issuing an ultimatum, use или ..., или ... (either ... or). Place it directly before the two options you are weighing.

It can also connect entirely separate clauses.

Either we will find a compromise, or we will lose everything.
Или мы найдём компромисс, или мы потеряем всё.
