Questions & Answers about Благодаря твоему совету у меня есть хорошая работа.
Why is it твоему совету instead of твой совет?
The preposition благодаря (thanks to) always requires the Dative case. Since совет (advice) is a masculine noun, it takes the Dative ending -у, and the possessive pronoun твой (your) changes to твоему.
Since благодаря translates to "thanks to", can I use it for sarcasm or negative situations, like getting fired?
Usually, no. Благодаря comes from the verb благодарить (to thank) and is strictly used for positive outcomes. If the advice caused something bad, you would use из-за (because of) followed by the Genitive case: из-за твоего совета.
Why is хорошая работа in the Nominative case here? Doesn't the object of "I have" usually take the Accusative case?
In English, "job" is the object, but the Russian "I have" construction (у меня есть) literally translates to "by me exists". This means the thing you possess is actually the grammatical subject of the sentence. Therefore, хорошая работа must be in the Nominative case.
Can I move благодаря твоему совету to the end of the sentence?
Yes, Russian word order is flexible. You can absolutely say У меня есть хорошая работа благодаря твоему совету. Placing it at the beginning, as in this sentence, simply places a bit more emphasis on the fact that your advice was the main cause.
